Poetry
Poetry is a literary genre that uses indirection, ornamented words, and figurative expressions to express feelings, worldviews, experiences, and expectations of the poet. It is a recollection of the poet’s feeling and understanding of a subject or phenomenon.
Types of Poetry

Lyrics:
- It is a musical poem which expresses the poet’s feelings for a being or object.
- Lyrics are meant to be sung, so the poem needs to be accompanied with a musical instrument.
- Lyrics reveal themes such as love, disappointment, nostalgia, etc.

Pastoral:
- It is a poem set in a rural area about country life.
- It eulogizes rural life and achievements.

Elegy:
- This poem is composed to express sorrow or grief over somebody who has passed on.

Epic:
- This is a lengthy poem written in a narrative form.
- It recounts the heroic exploits of a character in the ancient past.

Ballad:
- Ballad is a poem written in a musical form which tells a story.

- It is a poem that addresses a thing, an event, or a person.
